We had a whale of a time – Summer Camp 2018!

Summer Camp 2018…. WOW! What an amazing time we all had, 11 weeks of laughter and learning all while enjoying the sun and company of our friends.

We had so many wonderful experiences and moments this summer. We had some wonderful Art Workshops with the Krista Eddy; we had some fun engineering classes to build a capsule for our egg drop; obstacles courses; technology classes; EVEN a music composing workshop with the amazingly talented Aaron Meyers. We got outside almost every day on the wonderful local Nature Trails and parks where we often moved our classes to so we could enjoy the beautiful weather as much as possible!

We also had an exciting time on all of our fun filled field trips to places such as Beverley Beach, Fogarty State Park, Agate Beach, Drift Creek, Otter Rock, Disc Golf, Evergreen Space Museum, Wings and Waves Water park and even got our ‘KidsZone’ kids out on to the ocean to create memories that will last a lifetime!

Not forgetting our fun Rowing Club

that got kids to learn water safety and rowing boats in Depoe Bay Harbor and our AWESOME Surf Camp where we managed to get 60 kids out in the ocean Surfing some graduating into apprentice instructors and some getting out and catching waves for the first time ever! Thank you Ceci, Waylon, Surfrider, Warm Current and all the volunteers for another successful Surf Camp!

We did have to take a quiet moment this summer to say goodbye to our beloved ‘KidsZone’ Cool Bus who decided to leave us, but not before being able to represent in our Local 4th July Parade in Gleneden Beach! we had moments of panic wondering how we were going to continue picking up the 30 children from both Newport and Lincoln City each day and how on earth we would manage field trips, Then we got a wonderful phone call from Bayside Chapel here in Depoe Bay who offered their bus to us Monday to Friday for the remainder of the Summer. Thank you so much Bayside Chapel for allowing us to continue as planned!

This summer created hundreds of memories for each one of the 170 children that we saw an incredible 2723 times and fed over 8000 meals to this summer!! And for all of the staff here, it is so important to us what we do here, for all of the children in Lincoln County.  Hearing their happiness through laughter and kindness to one another and even being there for ‘our’ Families when times are a little bit of a struggle make every moment worthwhile, is so rewarding! Thank you, Lincoln County families, for being part of our Neighbors For Kids Family and allowing us to be a part of yours!
