Organized by our student-led Family Event Learning Team, the event included readings by the children and guest readers.  Each read an excerpt from one of their favorite books, and, after doing so, asked the audience:  Would you read this book? Audience participation was an integral aspect on this occasion in which we celebrated our students’ literacy passions and skills, and they did not disappoint.  With well over 500 votes on the books read, the kids won their reading challenge.

The challenge was to Executive Director Toby Winn:  If the students received over 100 votes from the audience, Toby would come to school on Monday fully dressed in woman’s attire, jewelry and more…AND they would get to paint his nails! Mitch Wade (USCG) got into the spirit of things and volunteered to meet the challenge as well, so look for their pictures in the local media for a view to how Kids Zone makes learning fun for our after-school kids!
